“It is a little-known truth,” says Conrad, “that the greatest monsters of all time are often misunderstood.”
Jenny gets up from the table, continuously feigning interest. “How so?”
“Grendel was not the killing machine described by the Anglo-Saxon scribe. He was, in fact, a terrified, injured, and very human creature. Beowulf ended him unjustly.”
“Tragic.” They’ve found their way outside the restaurant; the alleyway glows beneath Jenny’s fresh cigarette.
“Monsters are not monstrous when truly understood.” He grins; the orange glow illuminates his jackknife eyeteeth.
“Are- you understood?” She chokes, unable to scream.
“By you? Never.”
Conrad bites.
Jenny bleeds.
Blackout.

uneducated question.
ReplyDeletewhat are eyeteeth?
& you write good. (:
I really like these excerpts. A LOT. Are they all from the same storyline/idea? Just wondering cause there are a LOT of characters.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've met Asher before....like you told me about him or something. Hm. >.> And somehow, even though I hardly know him, I really like Antlerboy.
Not that any of the above has to do with THIS post. Conrad=excellent name for vampire. -sigh- Ain't it the way that monstrous people always try to justify themselves.
:)
Hope you like my commenting. Copiously. Let it never be said I don't deliver.

They're from separate stories, as identified by their separate tagging.
ReplyDeleteAsher, Antlerboy, Satin, and Lauraline are from a storyline referred to currently as 'Fravashi'.
The rest are independent.
And to answer Dan:
ReplyDelete(as I must 'cause I'm an incorrigible know-it-all)
Eyeteeth are the third from the front teeth commonly elongated in vampiric creatures; they're the most visible canines in the human smile.
