Under the midnight-red lights, Liam was screaming.
Jila crouched, somewhere ahead, holding a match close to the heap of wings before her. In the buildings above, curtains shuffled aside, revealing nervous eyes.
"I'd stop screaming, if I were you." Jila sniffed. "You'll bring the humans out again. They'll try to reclaim you, if they can see you."
Liam allowed the noise to die.
She pulled something from the pile and tossed it at Liam's head. He caught it, shakily, and stared at the broken crown clenched between his fingers.
"Don't forget, Liam." She whispered as she passed. "We're the good guys."

I'm scared now. This one was eerie and more than slightly disturbing. For some reason, Liam screaming made me terrified, which means you did a very good job. Loved the opening, it drew me right in.
ReplyDeleteI think the "Liam was screaming" line is like my favorite. Ever.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. I think I like this more then part 1. Don't ask me why, I just sorta did. "I'd stop screaming, if I were you." Jila sniffed. "You'll bring the humans out again. They'll try to reclaim you, if they can see you." That was my favorite part of this. It gave it an eerie vibe that propels the audience on. Very interesting. Very well written. Very good job.
